New Year's celebration - In Australia

Magnificent Firworks
New Year is a public holiday and many people love to spend this day with their family and friends. Unlike Korean New Year's Day, they have summer New Year's Day. So, they often enjoy an outdoor activity which includes picnics, camping, surfing, water sports, etc. A lot of tourists celebrate their New Year in Ausralia.

The main attraction of Ausralian New year is magnificent fireworks. In Sydney Harbour Bridge, more than 80,000 fireworks are lit. The fireworks lit on the New Year's Eve can be seen from a 16Km radius around Sydney. The beautiful and amazing view become the memorable impression in watching people's mind.

New Year Festival - In China


Lantern Festival
Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first days of the New year and ends on the Full Moon 15days later. The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival. Chinese celebrate at night with lantern displays and children carry lanterns in a parade. Also they perform the dragon dance.
New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are celebrated as a family affair, a time of reunion and thanksgiving. The celebration is traditionally highlighted with a religious ceremony given in honer of Heaven and Earth, the gods of the house hold the family ancestors.

Traditional Food - Jai
Chinese prepare more food to celebrate New Year than any other time of the year. This food is for family and friends, as well as those close to them who have died.
On New Year's Day, the chinese family eat a vegetarian dish called Jai. They cook Jai with the various ingredients like root vegetables or fibrous vegetables.

New Year Festival - In Korea


Seol and Sebe
koreans celebrate the Lunar New Year. Seol Is, along with "chusok", one of the two most important holidays in Korea.
The New Year's greeting is "새해 복 많이 받으세요."
Koreans put the "solbim" on this ealry morning and they do Sebe(the first greeting of the year) to the elders like grand parents, older relatives, and own parents. Solbim are new clothes which are prepared to wear on Seolnal. Usually, it is the traditional custome, Han bok.

The Traditional Food - Ttokkuk


Ttokkuk is one of the famous foods in New Year. By eating this food you are getting one year older. Koreans do not count the age on the basis of their birthday but on the basis of every New Year's day. When you have a dish of Ttokkuk, you are one year older. This food is made of "Ga re ttok" which shapes round.


Funny Seolnal

Koerans are playing a lot of fun activities in New Year.
They fly kites, play Yut game, do top-spinning, and do snow sliding, etc. However, Yut game is propably the most popular among them. Yut is one of the traditional Korean games that can be played anywhere. It's especially popular on New Year's Day.
