New Year Festival - In China


Lantern Festival
Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first days of the New year and ends on the Full Moon 15days later. The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival. Chinese celebrate at night with lantern displays and children carry lanterns in a parade. Also they perform the dragon dance.
New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are celebrated as a family affair, a time of reunion and thanksgiving. The celebration is traditionally highlighted with a religious ceremony given in honer of Heaven and Earth, the gods of the house hold the family ancestors.

Traditional Food - Jai
Chinese prepare more food to celebrate New Year than any other time of the year. This food is for family and friends, as well as those close to them who have died.
On New Year's Day, the chinese family eat a vegetarian dish called Jai. They cook Jai with the various ingredients like root vegetables or fibrous vegetables.
